Latency in the Internet infrastructure is an increasing problem for many applications and services. Interactive services are disrupted for shorter or longer periods of time, and it becomes hard to deliver media services with low latency. Web services suffer from long delays per transaction which is frustrating for end users because of long waiting times and bad interactivity.

 

Latency

Network capacity (`bandwidth') is increasing at a rapid pace with the deployment of fibre-to-the-home and mobile broadband. Latency is then becoming the main performance limitation for Internet services.
