Latency in the Internet infrastructure is an increasing problem for many applications and services. Interactive services are disrupted for shorter or longer periods of time, and it becomes hard to deliver media services with low latency. Web services suffer from long delays per transaction which is frustrating for end users because of long waiting times and bad interactivity.

READY is a distributed research environment with overall purpose of addressing the increasingly problematic latency issues in the Internet. The scientific objectives include analysing and understanding the causes for latency, developing new mechanisms, protocols and architectural elements to mitigate the latency problem, and evaluating the results in application-relevant scenarios using testbeds, simulators and other tools.

READY is funded by The Knowledge Foundation (KKS) in the SIDUS program. The duration of the current funding is October 2013 until September 2018.
